FTB: Why Bury FC suffered a terrible fate, but EFL readmission into League Two wasn’t the answer

Bury FC’s expulsion from the Football League was a sad day for English football and blame for the collapse can be thrown squarely onto the owners. Football supporters might have levelled some discontent against the EFL for their unmoving, decisive action but ultimately they had their hands forced – they couldn’t continue to facilitate a sunken ship.

The Shakers legacy was ran into the ground by those in charge, and it’s no surprise that when the football community rallied around the club, they looked towards the option of potential readmission the following year back into the Football League in League Two. In fairness to the EFL too, they willingly facilitated this idea and rather than immediately strike it down, offered it to a vote for the fellow League Two clubs.

Gamesmanship is just another part of football that has become commonplace. Suddenly, as matches head towards the latter stages, the players of one side might seem suddenly sluggish and in no desperate rush to take throw-ins and set plays.

However, at Huish Park, it seemed not only the players wanted to get involved. Just to keep the game going, referee Aaron Jackson had to in effect brandish eight red cards.

The sorry state of Gateshead FC; Staff and players set to strike over club sale

It seems every day that another club, both in the Football League and just below, seems to be embroiled in financial troubles. For Tyneside club, Gateshead FC, it’s started to become a nightmare right as times looked to be on the up.

The National League side, who currently sit ninth in the table and are just outside the playoff positions, have been wrought by financial woes all season.

Despite having only been taken over by Dr Ranjan Varghese in July 2018, financial issues have seen the Tynesiders operate under a transfer embargo for the vast majority of the Hong Kong-based businessman’s tenure.
