Maintaining momentum: The best time for women’s football

Women’s football has been on a steady, upwards climb in popularity for a number of years now, but recently success with the 2019 Women’s World Cup and large stadiums attendances at the beginning of the current Women’s Super League season show that the momentum is really with the women’s game right now. It’s just a matter of making sure those in control of the game seize the opportunity they now have.

As interest in the women’s game grows, it is necessary that organisations involved come together to ensure that in this most crucial of steps it is supported to reach the next step. The foundations have been built, the business case of sorts for the game itself proven clearly – there is an audience out there, hungry for the sport – and now it just needs the necessary backing.

FTB: Why Bury FC suffered a terrible fate, but EFL readmission into League Two wasn’t the answer

Bury FC’s expulsion from the Football League was a sad day for English football and blame for the collapse can be thrown squarely onto the owners. Football supporters might have levelled some discontent against the EFL for their unmoving, decisive action but ultimately they had their hands forced – they couldn’t continue to facilitate a sunken ship.

The Shakers legacy was ran into the ground by those in charge, and it’s no surprise that when the football community rallied around the club, they looked towards the option of potential readmission the following year back into the Football League in League Two. In fairness to the EFL too, they willingly facilitated this idea and rather than immediately strike it down, offered it to a vote for the fellow League Two clubs.

Bayern Munich humbled Tottenham Hotspur in their own backyard, running in a ruthless display to breeze past their opponents as 7-2 winners in their UEFA Champions League Group B clash.

Despite the score, it was an enthralling encounter in London, as Tottenham even took an early lead through Son Heung-min and were level just before half time – before sinking without a fight in the closing stages of the match.

Nice sack youngster Lamine Diaby-Fadiga after admitting theft of teammate’s watch

French top-flight side OGC Nice have sacked 18-year-old youngster Lamine Diaby-Fadiga with immediate effect after the France under-18s international admitted stealing a watch worth a reported £62,000 from team mate Kasper Dolberg.

Denmark international Dolberg had his watch stolen from the team dressing room on 16 September, with the 21-year-old reporting the theft to the police.

England women set to play in front of record crowd against Germany

England’s women’s side are set to play in front of a record crowd in a women’s match in England when they face off against Germany in their final home game of the year on 9 November.

Already more than 75,000 tickets have been sold for the friendly clash, several thousand higher than the current record for a women’s football match in England – which currently stands at 70,584 who watched Team GB’s 1-0 victory over Brazil at Wembley in the 2012 Olympics.

Xavier Amaechi is an exciting English winger and one of the latest wave of young English stars to have moved overseas – largely to Germany – in the hope of furthering their development in a different, potentially more accessible environment.

An England youth international, Amaechi was part of the team of the tournament when he played for England’s under17s national team in the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, scoring in the quarter final against Norway.
