Lawrence Shankland has been around in the Scottish leagues for a number of seasons, but it wasn’t until 2017 that the Scottish forward hit prolific goalscoring form.

Then a free agent, Shankland signed a short-term contract to play for Scottish League One club Ayr United in September 2017.

At Somerset Park, Shankland netted a remarkable 50 goals in just 61 league appearances, including a hat-trick against his former club Queen’s Park. Ayr won the league by one point, with Shankland finished with 29 goals, before Ayr reached the playoffs the next Scottish Championship season, with a total return was 34 goals in 41 games.

Shankland then joined fellow Scottish Championship side Dundee United, hitting even more impressive form – scoring a remarkable 13 goals in just eight league appearances so far. The form also earned Shankland a Scotland call-up.
