Mehdi Abeid is another former Tyneside young prospect, having joined in 2011 from Lens, who never quite reached the heights he was once predicted.
The Algerian international spent four years at St. James’ Park, managing just 13 senior league appearances for the club. In that time, he also spent time out on loan at St. Johnstone in Scotland and at Greek side Panathinaikos.
He impressed in his loan stint, joining the Athens club permanently following his Newcastle exit.
From there, Abeid moved back to France with Dijon – where he would impress in Ligue 1, with his form over three seasons earning the midfielder a move to Nantes.
