Antonio German, a 27-year-old Grenada international, has claimed he was forced to leave Malaysia Super League side Selangor after suffering racism abuse from some of the club’s supporters.

The former Queens Park Rangers forward joined Selangor in January but left the club after just one month when fans told him he was “too dark to play” for their side.

Despite scoring once in three games, the Londoner was booed during matches and sent racist remarks on social media.

Selangor acknowledged “racist remarks” were made towards German, saying they had blocked fans who repeated made racist comments on their platforms.

Club coach, B Sathianathan, also reported receiving racist abuse. Grenadian international German has played for clubs in Scotland, England and India since leaving QPR in 2011.

Since arriving in Malaysia, German scored eight goals in 10 preseason matches, then netted on his league debut.

Despite that, a minority of Selangor supporters booed his performances on the pitch, as well as taking to social media to send the player racist messages.

German played alongside Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling in the QPR youth team.

Currently unattached, the 27-year-old is looking for new opportunities to revive his abruptly paused football career – though fears his experiences in Malaysia, and his sudden departure from Selangor, are hurting his prospects.

He stressed that most fans in Malaysia had been great, and it was a minority of supporters who had spoilt his experiences in the Southeast Asian country.
