Yannick Toure is a name that will be unfamiliar to most English football fans, but it appears the 17-year-old could be Newcastle’s first bit of transfer business in this January.
Toure has been lauded as a future star, with Arsenal, Juventus and RB Salzburg believed to be among the promising striker’s admirers.
Newcastle are understood to be looking to open talks with Toure’s team, Young Boys, in the next 24 hours.
The Magpies would be required only to pay a FIFA-designated compensation fee given that Toure is yet to sign a new contract with the Swiss club and has just six months left on his current deal.
This season the Senegalese-born 17-year-old has been prolific in front of goal, scoring six times in seven appearances at U21 level, and has been capped in Switzerland’s U17s team, but is still likely a long way of being Premier League ready.
As such, questions will be asked by Newcastle fans should a transfer materialise, given that Toure would clearly be a player for the future and many around St. James’ Park would rather the focus was placed on securing Premier League survival this season first.
