Former Stoke City defender Dionatan Teixeira has died aged 25 in his native Brazil from a suspected heart attack.
Teixeira was playing for Moldovan side FC Sheriff Tiraspol, who are playing in the Europa League this season, at the time of his death but was in Brazil when he became ill and suffered the suspected heart attack.
The club, who won the domestic league and cup double last season, said: “He will remain forever in our hearts.”
Teixeira had a number of trials at Premier League clubs and signed for Stoke City in 2014.
The Brazilian defender suffered from injury problems during his spell in England, however, and made just two substitute appearances during his three years at the Potters.
Stoke City expressed their condolences to the player’s friends and family.
Teixeira acquired a Slovak passport in August 2013 and represented Slovakia U21s on six occasions between 2013 and 2014.
